Here's to the coaches

Bill_walsh

I’ve learned most about business leadership through sports. And mostly from the great coaches I've had, including my dad. To this day, I get more out of a good coaching  book than I do a management one. Leadership is not a science. It doesn’t take an MBA or fancy words. It’s about street smarts. It’s a mindset and commitment to put the greater good ahead of everything else. Being a teacher first and a boss second. Wanting to win more than the person next to you. Being smart enough to surround yourself with smarter people than you and having a vision. It’s a lot to aspire to but attainable by many.

Bill Walsh, of Stanford and 49ers fame, is one of the best pro coaches of modern times. If you share my interest in coaching wisdom (not the Rex Ryan meathead variety), you should check out The Score Takes Care of Itself. An easy but thought provoking read on leadership, the price of the pursuit of perfection, and building a winning work culture. Enjoy.
